Sanford Tollette's Retirement Celebration!
Dear Friend of Pfeifer Camp,
On May 1, 2026, at 6pm we will gather to celebrate the retirement of Sanford Tollette after 50 years of dedicated leadership at Pfeifer Camp. For half a century, Sanford has invested his heart and life into shaping young people, building character, and expanding opportunity.
While this milestone deserves celebration, Sanford has made one thing clear: what he truly wants is not recognition — it is continued support for the camp’s mission.
Since 1929, Pfeifer Camp has provided a free summer camp experience to youth across Central Arkansas. Under Sanford’s leadership, the camp broadened its reach to serve economically disadvantaged children of all backgrounds, ensuring that every child — regardless of race, gender, or circumstance — could experience the life-changing gift of camp.
At Pfeifer, children gain more than outdoor skills. They gain confidence.
They learn independence by spending time away from home.
They learn responsibility through daily chores and community living.
They learn teamwork while competing in Water Olympics or earning the Clean Cabin Award.
They harvest, prepare, and cook a meal over a campfire.
They learn to swim, kayak, and try something new.
They practice respect — for one another and for the natural world.
They learn accountability.
They learn leadership.
They learn to try again when something feels hard.
For many campers, Pfeifer becomes more than a summer program. It becomes a place of belonging — a camp family that offers structure, high expectations, positive role models, and encouragement they may not find anywhere else.
As we honor Sanford’s extraordinary 50-year legacy, we invite you to invest in the next 50 years.
Your generosity ensures that Pfeifer Camp remains free and accessible to the children who need it most. Your gift makes it possible for another child to conquer fear, discover ability, and return home stronger than when they arrived.
Camp is not just a week in the woods.
It is often the place a child first discovers who they are capable of becoming.
Thank you for celebrating this milestone by strengthening the future.
